Blog #4: Monster

In my opinion there is a definite relationship with all three books that the class has read. This relationship is unfortunetly discrimination. The first book that group 4 read was Monster by Walter Dean Myers. Monster in a nut shell was about a sixteen year old black male who was charged with first degree murder. In the Book Thief and in Maus it was all about how Hitler was racist against the Jews, and anyone who did not look like they were German. A quote from Monster is when the defense attorney Petrocelli said that Steve was a "monster." This deeply affected him because Steve kept on writing it down time after time while his lawyer was talking to him and saying which strategy they should use. In conclusion Monster, Maus, and The Book Thief have a couple things in common. They are all great works of literature, and they all have tales of how racism once ruled the world, and how it is still here in todays world.

Death.... the character from the book thief

Death is the character who I decided to write this blog about. He is the narrorator of the story. Death has a position that only one person has, and he will continue to have it for the rest of time. He really does not like his job and he gets rather depressed at that fact. Sometimes he talks about colors, I believe that he does this so that he can feel better about his job because as I mentioned before He does not like his job at all.  Knowing what color everything will be when he gets there is always different. I do think that it is ironic that he is afraid of humans, because his job is taking away their lives. I also think that it is odd because death is one of the top ten things that humans are afraid of.One thing that is a little perculiar to me is the gender of Death, should we just assume that he is male like people of the christian faith do to God, or is it a female character?  Death is never the cause of our death, he is just the reason that we are able to go on past mortal life. One last thing I want to leave you with is that Death is not a wise cracking cartoon like he is portrayed in on family guy, I think that he is not in mortal form but we all know that he exists.
